Create a playable experience webapp to enable Candy Crush players to engage and share with their friends and family. The game experience should reflect closely the Candy Crush app and be integrated into the CMS already created by Biff.
Players should experience a level(s) of Candy Crush Saga and be incentivised to invite friends to compete against each other to be crowned the winner of their challenge league.
We received some initial wireframes of an app flow from the King game team to use as a guide however we went through various iterations of the flow and game mechanics until we landed on the most frictionless solution.
We worked with an old friend at SpinKick Studios to develop a WebGL version of the actual Candy Crush Saga game based only on reference material and a lot of Youtube research. Of course it would be impossible to fully recreate their all-conquering game, so we focused on core game mechanics and also adding a few new ones to add to the intrigue of this new experience for players. The system we developed allowed new levels and level designs to be created quickly by editing simple json files and uploading them to our bespoke developed King CMS.
The leaderboard and 'game' system we created to allow players to create their own league and invite a limited number of friends to it was an extreme challenge but one we approached with excitement and enthusiasm. I mean, how often do you get to flex your creative muscle in such ways?!
Analytics and tracking was a key feature in the development and rollout of the project as King wanted to track all interactions and game metrics to allow a thorough assessment of the games performance. Multiple rounds of King internal testing and review were negotiated before we could finally release it into the wild!
